Head of School Search 12-9-09

Greetings from the Head of School Search committee! We have completed our review of applications and have selected three finalists to visit campus the week of December 14th.

The itineraries for these visits are being finalized now and will include meetings with students, faculty and staff, the three parent advisory committees, and the Board of Trustees. Brief biographies of the three candidates will soon be made available to the entire Friends School Mullica Hill community.

These interviews are opportunities for the candidate to get to know the FSMH community and for us to get to know the candidate. I will be attending the Parents Association Meeting on December 9 to discuss the search and what the committee hopes to accomplish with the finalist visits next week.

On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee,

William Carrigan, Clerk of the Search Committee
Assistant Clerk, Board of Trustees

Head of School Search 11-20-09

Holiday greetings to the Friends School Mullica Hill Community! I am pleased to offer you this update on the state of our school’s search for a new Head of School. The deadline for applications was reached on 15 November 2009, and we have received 30 complete applications (in addition to some inquiries and partial applications).

The applicants are impressive as a group, and they hail from eleven different states (plus one territory of the United States) and three foreign countries. They hold a wide range of notable positions currently. Some are or have been Heads of School; some are principals or leaders of academic divisions; some are leaders of administrative divisions in independent schools; some are or have been executive directors at non-profit companies; and many are former teachers.

The search committee is now busy determining which of these experienced and gifted applicants we wish to bring to campus for the final stage of interviewing. Please continue to monitor this page for updates as the process moves forward.

On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee,

William Carrigan, Clerk of the Search Committee
Assistant Clerk, Board of Trustees

Head of School Search 10-07-09

In September, Drew Smith, Head of School for the past ten years, announced that he will be leaving Friends School Mullica Hill in July 2010 after a total of 23 years of dedicated service to our community. FSMH has initiated a search process that will include all parts of the school community and will have a successor in place by July 1, 2010.

The new Head of School will be selected by the Friends School Mullica Hill Board of Trustees, the school’s governing body, with the advice of the Head of School Search Committee and five separate Advisory committees. Those five committees are as follows: Lower School Parents, Middle School Parents, Alumni Parents, Faculty/Staff, and Students. Each of these committees, and the Head of School Search Committee, are composed of eight individuals.

Throughout the process, there will be numerous opportunities to get involved. We encourage you to check this page for updates and announcements as we move forward with the next exciting stage in the history of Friends School Mullica Hill.

For more information or to provide any comments you might have on the search, please contact:

William Carrigan, Clerk of the Search Committee carrigan@rowan.edu
