Eighth Grade
English – T. Joe
We are currently reading "Lord of the Flies" by
William Golding. In order to prepare for this we took a US
Coast Guard survival test online and watch a Twilight Zone
episode entitled “A Shot an Arrow into the Air.”
We should be finished reading the book by next week. This
has spawned many interesting debates about human nature and
what exactly it entails. The students are working on writing
their memoirs as well. But the catch is that they only are
allowed to use 6 words! It should be interesting.
Science –T. Jason
In Science the eighth grade students have begun the initial
work with fruit flies. They have sorted several vials by gender.
They will monitor these vials to assure that they have selected
virgin females, as this is imperative to our future crosses.
They will then begin crossing males and females and observe
several generations for changes in the genetic make-up.
Math– T. Jerry
Students will begin exploring system of linear equations.
Using a graphing calculator, students will see more than one
equation on a set of axes. Students will use the substitution
method and two variables to solve system of linear equations.
In addition, students will be introduced to relations and
the intersection and union of sets throughout the next month.
