Fourth Grade

–T. Glenn

The fourth graders are very enthusiastic about a new, internet-based project we've recently begun: a class "wiki." This is a web site with restricted, password-only access that can be edited by any of its members. (Wikipedia is the now-familiar, online encyclopedia written and edited by volunteers.) Our wiki will present classroom news as reported by student volunteers, and edited by any member of the class as he/she sees fit. There is also a comment section linked to each page, on which students and parents can offer responses to the page itself.

Because of the password protection, students and parents can feel comfortable that only those in the community are viewing information that might include names and other details about what we're doing. Additionally, the wiki administrator (Teacher Glenn) automatically receives a report of each addition or deletion to existing wiki pages. The students already have shown themselves to be eager proofreaders, and the wiki is sure to strengthen these abilities further.

Fourth Grade Science – T. Pasha
Since the fourth grade has finished their chapter on space, they will switch their focus to the works of important scientists and inventors. This will allow them to touch on several disciplines of science and the scientific method. Fourth graders will recreate some of these famous experiments in the lab (only the safe ones, of course). The assessment of this study will be a research paper, a visual display or demonstration, and a speech about the scientist chosen by each student.
