Kindergarten

Celebrations galore have overtaken the month of March in
our Kindergarten classrooms! The beginning of the month leant
itself to paying tribute to one of the most well-known and
wonderful children’s authors…Dr. Seuss. The classes
spent time writing rhyming words, re-creating their favorite
Dr. Seuss covers and making patterns based on the story One
Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Our Dr. Seuss filled
week culminated with a pajama wearing fete complete with bagels
and brunch!
The children have also been sharing in some of their most
cherished bedtime stories. They have created renditions of
their favorite pajamas and have written about favorite things
to do when they’re wearing their p.j.’s. We even
read some of our favorite bedtime stories by flashlight!
Kindergarten has also been looking forward to the beginning
of the spring season. In anticipation of the breezy, beautiful
days, we learned about different kinds of kites and attempted
to fly our kites in the afternoon sun. We had a blast watching
the colorful streamers catch the wind and soar.
In math, we have been learning how to tell time using both
analog and digital clocks. The children are truly enjoying
utilizing manipulatives to add and subtract while creating
imaginative number stories. We are also continuing to work
with different coins, including pennies, nickels, dimes and
quarters.
We concluded our unit on short vowels. You can often hear
the Kindergarten children’s voices echoing throughout
the hallway with the chants of “ah, ah, ah” (short
a) or “ih, ih, ih” (short i). Their enthusiasm
is palpable and the short vowel practice has given them great
confidence with both their reading and writing! We continue
to make wonderful strides each and everyday…and always
make time to dance, sing, share and laugh!
