Pre-Kindergarten

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss
The beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss’ birthday
is in March, so the pre-kindergarten children enjoyed many
stories written by him as well as some exciting games and
activities around his books.
First, the children created their own “Cat in the Hat”
hats – using their patterning skills. After cutting
out the hat shape – they patterned red and white stripes
to finish off the hats.
Language Arts: The children brought in their favorite Dr.
Seuss book to share with the class and created a bulletin
board filled with book jackets to match their book.
Math: We played the ‘Cat in the Hat’ game. During
this activity the children learned about odd ( 1,3,5) and
even (2,4,6) numbers. After rolling the die, they identified
the number and whether it was odd or even, and then colored
the hat green or red accordingly.
Science: After reading the book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck,
the children helped make a batch of oobleck.
And finally, we made green eggs and ham for a nutritious
morning snack. Of course we read Green Eggs and Ham, and created
a graph predicting whether we would like the special treat
or not. The green eggs and ham were enjoyed by all!

The focus of art projects for the second trimester has been
on the element of color and value. Pre-K discovered that by
mixing two primary colors together you make a secondary color;
for example, blue and yellow paint mixed together make green.
The third trimester will focus on the art element of form.
Students will create three-dimensional artwork in several
media including, paper mache, clay, and mixed media.
