School Events
The following events are some of the activities that are
held in a typical school year. For specific event dates please
refer to the School
Calendar.
August
Pre Kindergarten & Kindergarten Ice Cream Social
This event is a great opportunity for new and returning Pre K and K families to get together before school begins. Ice cream is served by volunteers from the PA.
September
New Parent & Student Gathering
This meeting provides our new parents a change to have their
questions answered by the Head of School, the Principal and
the Director of Admissions, as well as the Executive Committee
of the Parent Association. While parents meet, the new students
are engaged in activities that promote new friendships.
Back to School Picnic
Join the FSMH community for the annual celebration of
the start of the school year! Families can visit the teachers,
check out classrooms, and enjoy the company of other FSMH
families! Many families may prefer to bring their own picnic
dinner but an option to pre-order Joe's pizza and salads is
available. The PA will provide water and desserts.
PA Back to School Coffee
Once school starts it is tough enough getting the kids
out the door with breakfast, let alone making sure parents
eat! Parents can stop by the Gym for light breakfast fare
provided by the PA Executive Committee. This is a opportunity
to visit with parents and school staff.
Back to School Nights
The Back To School Nights involve a brief welcome by
our Head of School and an introduction to the lower and/or
middle school faculty. Parents have the opportunity to visit
their children’s classrooms and become familiar with
the teachers’ expectations for the current school year.

International Day of Peace
Students investigate the meaning of peace in class activities
prior to this commemorative day. A brief ceremony and planting
of pinwheels for peace takes place on September 21.
Monarch Butterfly Parade
After an intensive study of the monarch butterfly, lower
school students don costumes of the butterfly’s life
stages and proceed to parade around campus. Families are invited.
PA Magazine Sale
This is a fundraiser though QSP Inc., that provides 40%
of each purchase to Friends School Mullica Hill Parent Association.
Many families choose to start or renew their magazine subscriptions
through this fundraiser. Hard copies of the order forms are
sent home in September, but orders can also be placed online
at www.qsp.com, using our school identification number: 425007203,
during the entire school year.
October
Inspired Pasta (and conversations with Bruce)
Join other FSMH parents at these PA sponsored dinners with
the Head of School. These dinners give Bruce, and parents,
the opportunity to interact in a smaller group setting. Child
care with pizza and drinks will be provided in the Gym for
the Pre K through 8th grade dinners.
Fall Festival
The Fall Festival,
is the PA’s largest fundraiser of the school year. Last
year’s event raised $13,738, which was 68%of the amount
placed in the FSMH Technology Fund. This event is a day of
fun for FSMH families and the surrounding community, with
games, crafts, food and music.
High School Night
To help our graduating 8th graders make informed decisions
about their high school, this night is designed to introduce
the independent high schools from the Delaware Valley area.
Representatives (including FSMH alumni) will be present to
talk with interested parents and students.
Halloween Parade
At the end of the school day, parents are invited to watch
the parade of princesses and goblins. Following the parade,
refreshments will be served to the school community.
November
Dia de los Muertos Celebration
A schoolwide celebration for Day of the Dead, commemorating the Spanish language and Mexican culture.
Ten Thousand Villages
Ten Thousand Villages bring a global marketplace of fair trade
merchandise to FSMH for one week. Students, helped by parent
volunteers, may shop for holiday gifts and/or make purchases
for themselves. All proceeds of these sales are returned to
the artisans.
Thanksgiving Gathering
This gathering is a school wide event to celebrate Thanksgiving
with a wonderful autumn meal! Students eat with their partner
classes, faculty and the FSMH board members. Parents help
set up, serve, and clean up after the gathering.
December
Middle School Drama
The middle school drama group will perform a production in
the Big Exciting Space. All parents and students are invited
to attend the evening performance.
Winter Concerts
The Winter Concerts are a wonderful evening that allows families
to enjoy the fine music and performing arts that are part
of our students’ curriculum.
January
Parents' Day
In an open house forum, parents may observe their children
during a regular school day.
Martin Luther King Jr. Voluntary Day of Service
The entire school community is invited to participate in service
projects organized by the faculty. Some projects may be held
on campus while others require participants to visit sites
in the local area.
February
Scholastic Book Fair
Come help support our school during the Scholastic Book Fair!
Each grade will visit the book fair during the week, and the
Book Fair will be open some days after school. Volunteers
are needed to help with setup and to work during the week.
Moving Up
This event is a chance to learn about the upcoming grade.
Parents may visit their children’s next grade and speak
with those teachers about the curriculum.
Violin Nights for First, Second & Third Grade
Families
These evenings will allow the violin instructor and students
to demonstrate their knowledge of the violin. Students will
have an opportunity to play for their parents.
March
Middle School Science Fair
This evening is a presentation of the middle school students’
science projects. The lower school classes have an opportunity
to view the projects during the school day.
Art Nights
Two evenings are scheduled to celebrate Youth Art Month. Each
family in attendance will create a work of art with the guidance
of the art teacher
April
Middle School Spring Musical
Middle school students perform a musical at the Pitman Broadway
Theatre. All middle schoolers are encouraged to participate,
with auditions held for the leading roles. The school community
support for these budding actors is appreciated.
Spring Auction
The Spring Auction is an exciting event, hosted by the FSMH
Development Committee. Parents will join Friends School families
and staff as they enjoy dinner, drinks and bid on many exciting
gift baskets, vacations, and one of a kind items! The PA provides
support to the Development Committee for this event.
May
Spring Flower Sale
April showers bring May flowers and May flowers always bring…the
Spring Flower Sale! This PA fundraiser gives FSMH families
and their friends a chance to get a head start on their beautiful
summer flower, herb and vegetable gardens.
Spring Concerts
Prepare for another gathering that showcases our students’
fine and performing arts skills.
Grandparent/Special Person Day
This day is a wonderful time for FSMH students to host special
visitors for the day! Grandparents and Special Friends are
invited to enjoy a PA sponsored Continental Breakfast, see
a reprise of the Spring Concert, and spend time with students
in the classrooms. The day wraps up after a special lunch
served by parent volunteers.

of breakfast, lunch set-up, lunch service and end of day clean
up.*
June
Barnes & Noble Day and Family Fun Night
Come and enjoy a wonderful evening at Barnes and Noble store
in Deptford, NJ. This end of the school year PA fundraiser
is another night that showcases our wonderful Friends School
community.
Field Day
Partner classes join together to play fun games and to compete
in different activities. The theme of camaraderie and good
natured competition is demonstrated in each activity. Parent
volunteers are needed to setup, staff each area and clean
up after field day. The PA provides water and special treats
at the end of the day.
Talent Show
Middle school students organize this event to showcase the
talent of the Friends School students. Students in grades
5 through 8 are invited to participate. All grades make a
presentation of their grade’s service project. Parents
and friends are welcomed.
8th Grade Meeting for Worship
Eighth grade graduates, their parents and faculty gather for
a time of reflection, thanksgiving, and expression of hope
for the graduates. Refreshments are served following meeting.
Graduation
The most inspirational and moving event at Friends School
is the 8th grade graduation ceremony. In this revered evening
each graduate speaks, sharing their school experiences, expressing
their gratitude, and imparting their youthful wisdom. The
Board of Trustees and Head of School invite all families to
attend.
