Support FSMH
Friends School Mullica Hill is a non-profit, independent school that depends on the generosity of its community to thrive. This generosity takes many forms, including voluntary contributions of time, expertise, and material gifts. Our most pressing needs are determined by how we fund our program: unlike public schools that rely on tax dollars, FSMH operates by using private funds. Most of our school’s operating expenses are covered by tuition, but voluntary contributions represent between 5-10% of our income. Members of our community help us cover the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating our students by donating to the Annual Giving campaign, participating in the annual auction, and through other types of underwriting support and gifts-in-kind.
By giving to the school, the adults are following the lead of the children for whom giving is an integral part of being a Friends School student. A survey undertaken by middle school students in the winter of 2005 demonstrated that each classroom throughout the school was involved in some kind of fund-raising or volunteer service. With months still left in the school year, students had raised over $5,000 (some by collecting pennies) and supported a dozen non-profit organizations through donations and volunteer activities.
While the school does receive grant money from Friends (Quaker) organizations and other foundations, our most critical source of support are the individuals who make up our school community. We ask everyone, including the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, Quaker Meetings and Friends, parents, grandparents, alumni, and others, to support the school’s mission and help meet our financial needs.
