50th Timeline: 2002 – The Opening of the Hanshi Deshbandhu Building

Aug 17, 2020

After many years of planning, much fundraising, and several construction issues, the first new academic building at Friends School Mullica Hill opened for the start of the 2002-2003 school year.  As the building neared completion, Drew Smith wrote of the experience of “wonder” that students and staff felt watching the building take shape and noted that the “building represents the collective...

50th Timeline: 2001 – 9/11 at Friends School Mullica Hill

Aug 11, 2020

Without a doubt, one of the most significant moments in world history during the first 50 years of the history of Friends School Mullica Hill was the attack on the United States on September 11, 2001.  All those who were alive at the time have memories of that day, but here are some from those working or attending the School on that fateful morning.  Brad Gibson, then a 7th grader and now a...

50th Timeline: 2000 – Problems with Cope

Jul 30, 2020

One great challenge that the School faced as it worked toward the construction of a new academic building was the physical state of Cope Building, originally constructed in 1908.  A report by Westfield Architects & Preservation Consultants in 1999 had found that Cope required significant preservation and restoration.  “The failure of the window lintels and the deterioration of the masonry...

I absolutely love this.

Yesterday was the culmination of our almost year-long artist in residency with educator/artist, Gail Scuderi, who worked with students to create new mosaic panels for our campus. At our Celebration of Creativity and Community, we officially unveiled our new mosaic panels with the themes of friendship, light, hope, and growth. Students shared their experiences and gave appreciation to all involved. Thank you to Young Audiences Arts for Learning, New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for the Arts Lab Residency Grant we received. Please be sure to stop and see the beautiful panels when in the neighborhood. ... See MoreSee Less
